Who this is for
Eligible applicants considering XLRI or other institutions accepting XAT for management admission. Confirm each programme’s qualification and application requirements; the examination and institution applications are separate steps.
A thoughtful decision begins with a clear understanding.
What makes XAT preparation distinctive
A useful answer is not always the quickest-looking option. Practise balancing evidence, constraints and the people affected by a decision.
Decision Making
Compare options in a scenario and explain the trade-offs.
Critical reading
Distinguish an argument from an unsupported assumption.
Quantitative insight
Use numbers and data to make a reasoned conclusion.
Balanced awareness
Give General Knowledge a deliberate place in your routine.
Exam pattern overview
Understand the structure so you can plan your preparation.
Main aptitude areas
Verbal/Logical Ability, Decision Making and Quantitative Aptitude/DI
Published timing
170 minutes for the main part; 10 minutes for General Knowledge
Marking considerations
Wrong answers and excessive skipped questions have different penalties
Read the current instructions for the exact application
General Knowledge
Separate treatment from the overall percentile calculation
XLRI may use it in its selection process
Based on the published XAT 2027 website scheme. Check the official bulletin, programme rules and later notices for your own application; a preparation map is not an eligibility decision. The published question numbers are approximate/expected, not guaranteed counts. General Knowledge has no negative marking; final test instructions and programme-specific selection rules govern.

XAT FAQ
Clear answers to common preparation questions.
Why does Decision Making need separate practice?
It asks you to weigh a situation and its possible responses. Practise identifying stakeholders, constraints and consequences rather than applying one remembered rule to every scenario.
Does General Knowledge count towards the overall percentile?
The published 2027 website says GK does not contribute to the overall percentile or cutoff score, but XLRI may consider it in selection. It still belongs in your preparation.
Is skipping a question always penalty-free?
No. The current published outline includes a penalty after the permitted number of skipped questions. Read how the rule applies in the official test instructions before making a strategy.
Does applying for XAT apply me to every accepting college?
Do not assume so. Check the application and selection requirements of each programme you want. A score and a programme application serve different purposes.
