UGC NET FAQ

Clear answers to common preparation questions.

Does every NET qualification include JRF?

No. The bulletin distinguishes three result categories. Assistant Professor/Ph.D. and Ph.D.-only categories do not include JRF. Your qualification route can also limit the outcomes for which you are eligible.

Can a four-year bachelor's graduate become Assistant Professor through this NET route?

Not on the four-year undergraduate route alone. The December 2026 bulletin makes that route eligible for JRF and Ph.D. admission, subject to its conditions, but not Assistant Professor appointment.

Is there a break between the papers?

No. The standard December 2026 scheme provides a continuous three-hour session for both papers. Follow the admit-card instructions and any approved accessibility arrangements.

How do I choose Paper II?

Check the official list of subject codes and the subject-selection guidance for your qualification route. Then download that subject's syllabus and use its units to make your study plan.

Does a qualifying result guarantee appointment or Ph.D. admission?

No. Universities and employers apply the relevant admission or recruitment process, eligibility verification and other applicable rules. Treat NET eligibility as one part of that process.
