CTET at a glance
Official information (opens in a new tab)Conducted by
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
Paper I
For teaching Classes I–V
Paper II
For teaching Classes VI–VIII
Reference mode
Pen-and-paper examination using OMR
Core approach
Child development, languages and subject pedagogy
Important distinction
Qualification does not guarantee appointment
Who this is for
Aspiring primary and upper-primary teachers who meet the applicable qualification rules. Check both NCTE requirements and the recruiting organisation's conditions before applying; an examination application does not establish appointment eligibility.
Understand the learner. Then choose the teaching approach.
Why thoughtful CTET preparation matters
Teaching preparation is stronger when you can explain the reason behind a classroom decision, not only recall its label.
A teaching eligibility step
CTET is an eligibility test, not a recruitment examination or a job offer.
Learner-centred thinking
Consider a child's development, prior knowledge and learning context.
Inclusive classrooms
Practise choosing approaches that respond to different learning needs.
Content and pedagogy
Ask both what you would teach and how you would help someone understand it.
Exam pattern overview
Understand the structure so you can plan your preparation.
Each paper
150 multiple-choice questions for 150 marks
February 2026 bulletin reference
Standard time
2 hours 30 minutes per paper
Marking
One mark per correct response; no negative marking
Paper choice
Take the paper for your target level; both are needed for both levels
The pattern above is from CBSE's February 2026 bulletin. Paper I combines Child Development and Pedagogy, two languages, Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Paper II combines Child Development and Pedagogy, two languages, and Mathematics/Science or Social Studies/Social Science. Use the notice for your target session; approved accessibility arrangements may alter time.

CTET FAQ
Clear answers to common preparation questions.
Does qualifying CTET give me a teaching job?
No. CTET qualification does not create a right to appointment. Recruiting organisations apply their own recruitment process and verify the required qualifications and other conditions.
Should I take Paper I, Paper II, or both?
Paper I is for Classes I–V and Paper II is for Classes VI–VIII. Someone intending to teach both levels must take both papers, subject to meeting the applicable eligibility rules.
Can I choose the same language for Language I and II?
The bulletin requires Language II to be different from Language I. Select from the offered languages and check the instructions for your session.
How can I prepare pedagogy without memorising every answer?
Start with a classroom situation. Identify the learner's need, compare the possible teacher responses and explain why one approach supports understanding better. Revisit mistakes by examining the reasoning, not just the answer key.
Is this an official CBSE preparation service?
No. EveryAgeLearn is independent. This page provides a learning map and links to official information; CBSE's notices and the recruiting authority's rules remain the source for examination and appointment decisions.
